late summer. Most likely pests are cutworm, wireworm and slugs.

Forms large, oval
hearts which have a mild flavour. Frost is said to improve the flavour.
PALLA ROSSA
(RADICCHIO)
Produces firm heads
with a deep red colour, good cold tolerance. Ribs are white and crisp.
ROSSO TREVISO
Long, pointed leaves,
which start off green and turn to red in colder months. Roots can be forced,
like Witloof to make the shoots paler and more tender. Very ancient variety
recorded in the 16th century.

Harvest throughout the
winter and early spring for salads. Fine quality and texture.
LIGHTNING
Suitable for mid -
late forcing. Long and smooth. Excellent keeping after harvest. Very productive. |
